Rogue Mogul Fall 2022 Survey Results
I ran a survey for Subscribers Only to get a sense of what you most want/need in your businesses. Based on that feedback, I’m planning where we go next. The results are in line with what I expected, though there are a couple of surprises too.
15 people took the survey which isn’t a huge sample, but it is enough for me to glean some insights and make decisions.
Let’s get on with the results…
What’s most important to you that we’re currently doing?
The take away here is that we’re giving you what you want in the formats you prefer, but we need to do better with the creation of simple tools. Articles continue to be popular, but I should have asked about video content as well, so you may be seeing more of that in the near future.
Expert interviews are also of interest and I have more planned. I’ll touch on that one again along with the analysis of question 3.
Quick question (only one click to answer):
Are you interested in video content as well?
Not really… I prefer other formats
I added the round up of other content to the newsletter a few weeks back, so we’ll definitely keep doing that. You can see this week’s round up below.
What are you interested in from Rogue Mogul in the near future?
This is where things get interesting.
In general, the survey says that interest skews away from courses. I can’t help but wonder if that’s because there are SO MANY courses out there that people have course fatigue, or if there is some other reason (like so many courses not being done well or taking too much time).
On the flip side, things like playbooks, cheat sheets, and blueprints are of strong interest, so you will definitely be seeing those soon. I’ve already planned out the first 3 – 5.
What do you most need help with right now?
This question shows me that there is a lot of need for business basics which makes a lot of sense based on my experience.
There are a ton of marketers teaching marketing (still in high demand), but not a lot of people teaching business finance or providing insights for how to scale up revenue without scaling up people.
I’m not a finance expert, but I know some people who are so we’ll look to add some training/content around that in the near future. We all know understanding business finance is important, but it’s easy to put off learning it in depth. To me, the key is how to make learning finance applicable, interesting, and even fun. Finance can get a little dry, so we’ll try to do better.
Audience building is always a hot topic. We’ve done a little of that on Rogue Mogul, but there’s room for more. This might be a good intersection of expert interviews from question 1 and a topic of need from question 3.
Anything else you would like from us?
This was an open-ended question to allow for free-form feedback. The primary asks were around tips and case studies to support the findings from question 1.
However, some also commented on the learning they are working on elsewhere which dovetails nicely into another project I have going for Rogue Mogul.
I’m not going to say too much right now, but I will tell you that the goal is to get you learning what you need to know when you need to know it so that you’re back in execution mode as fast as possible.
My plan going forward is to make content that draws from the intersection of the results above.
For example: expert interviews + video training + tools + audience building can come together to form something tangible and actionable that will help you move the needle on your business.
That’s all for now on the survey, but thank you to everyone who participated! You’ve given me a lot to think about.

This email is brought to you by SparkLoop
Starting in a couple of weeks, the ProTips will be “locked.” To unlock ProTips, you’ll refer others you think would enjoy or benefit from the Rogue Mogul newsletter.
Three referrals will unlock ProTips and there will be more rewards above that.
I’ll give you the full breakdown of the rewards next week.
The tool I’m using to manage the referral rewards program is SparkLoop. If you want to get your newsletter out to more people, SparkLoop is a great way to make it easy to manage.
ProTip: If you have a Creator or above plan on ConvertKit, SparkLoop is included at no extra cost.
P.S. I left “ProTips” out of this newsletter since they really didn’t fit in with reporting survey results.
Other Stuff That Caught My Attention
Execution – This is the way
This tweet from Noah Kagan gets straight to the point… Execute… NOW! It’s relevant to those of you trying to get up and running, but it’s something we all need to keep in mind (click through for the 2nd and 3rd parts).
At Some Point, You Have To Commit
This very short read hits with a ton of weight. The bottom line is that successful creators spend a lot of time experimenting. But once they hit on something that clicks they go all in and hyper-focus on that one thing. Even if that one thing isn’t an obvious path to success.
In a way, it’s what I’m doing with Rogue Mogul and it’s what I’ve seen others do as well.
Hat tip to Susanna Perkins, a fellow Unemployable Community member for sharing that article on Twitter.
Bio Writing Sucks, Let’s Make It Fun
I recently wrote the about page for Rogue Mogul and it was painful. The hardest part is writing a bio about myself. To add insult to injury we all need several bios of varying lengths for different purposes. So, fellow Unemployable Danielle Hughes is putting on a bio-writing workshop. I’m already in and inviting you to join me.

CEX Announces 2023 Dates
If you weren’t able to attend CEX (Creator Economy eXpo) last year you missed a great time that was packed with good info. They’ve just announced that CEX is back for 2023. So block your calendar for May 1-3. It’s in Cleveland, and if 2023 is anything like 2022, it’ll be worth it to be there.
